ELSS X OWLHK Ant Programme

ELSS X OWLHK

August-September/2017

一)大專生義工訓練 — 透過講座及戶外考察,成為中學教師培訓與中學生考察義工;

二)中學教師培訓 — 透過研討會及戶外考察,學習透過科學探究法探索城市生態;

Jointly organized by Outdoor Wildlife Learning Hong Kong (OWLHK) and us, the FREE Field Study Programme on NSS Biology – Exploring the Urban Ant Diversity is sponsored by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department. The Programme is characterized by outdoor field study specially designed for the NSS Biology Curriculum. Learning about ants in urban and suburban area, subject learning and environmental education can be achieved through studying ants as part of Hong Kong biodiversity and ecology.

 The Programme consists of 3 sub-programmes:

1) Volunteer Training for Tertiary Students;

2) Training Workshops for Secondary School Teachers; and

3) Field Study Programme for Secondary Students.

“Volunteer Training for Tertiary Students” includes a half-day seminar and a full-day outdoor field study training. Seminars mainly covers aspects on environmental education, biodiversity and ant ecology. Participants can acquire basic knowledge required for field studies and organizing activities of similar kind. Field study training will include visits to Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve, The University of Hong Kong and Lung Fu Shan Country Park. Through reviewing data collected from different habitats, participants will be familiarized with ecology and distribution of ant species in Hong Kong. By completing the training programme, participants can participate in “Training Workshops for Secondary School Teachers” and “Field Study Programme for Secondary Students” as volunteers.
